Dear Resident,

In line with the MRA’s mission to protect and advance the interests of Melville’s residents, it has lodged an objection to the above rezoning application.

The property owners of erf 879 have the following plans:

  • A busy restaurant and function venue trading from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. seven days a week, serving 300 meals per day (despite insufficient parking facilities)
  • The erecting of 18 two-bedroom residential units on the property (a multi-storey flat complex)

This poses a devastating threat to the residential amenity of this quiet and peaceful residential part of Melville. It is also a dangerous precedent for the rest of lower Main Road and poses a potential threat to the environmental integrity of the adjacent Melville Koppies.

Efforts to engage with the property owners have not produced positive results.

Please put yourself in the shoes of the neighbours and residents of this part of Melville and imagine your neighbour opening a restaurant in the next door house without following due process and how it would affect you. If we do not stand up to business owners who conduct themselves like this, it will attract more of them and will very quickly affect you and destroy the appeal of the suburb.

An experienced lawyer has been identified with the objective of winning this fight, and we need to raise the necessary funds to secure his assistance.
