Dear Melville Community,

We are now fourteen days into the national lockdown and while cabin fever is likely setting in, our community is coming together, while staying at home, to flatten the curve and get through this pandemic sooner than later. Bon Jovi’s ‘Half Way There’ verse from Living on a Prayer is playing on repeat…

Here are a few reminders to keep you, your family, and our community healthy.

First prize is to stay home as much as possible. We’ve been requested to only shop every 7 to 10 days, if possible. Reducing interactions is the best way to prevent any possible transmission. Please also remember that the Koppies are closed for now, and although we understand the cabin fever is setting in, please refrain from walking outside your property.

Don’t forget to wash your hands if you’ve visited the shops. Soap and water are very effective against viruses, but if not available, make use of the alcohol-based hand sanitizers available.

Please remain vigilant around your property. Our security companies are doing a great job keeping up their patrols, but as we are home now, it’s still important to keep our safety in our minds. Look out for yourselves, and for each other, and please report any suspicious activity you notice.

Lastly, keep in mind that social distancing is about ‘physical’ distancing! Please don’t hesitate to check in on your neighbours by a short phone call or Whatsapp message. A quick message exchange can go a long way towards alleviating social isolation and building community.

In addition to checking in, attached is a list of ways to help those who are in need (both individuals and healthcare facilities). If you would like to make a donation, please contact the Charity Contact or the MRA and we can put you in touch with these wonderful individuals.

We can do this, Melville. Let’s take on the second half of lockdown with as much courage and determination as we had when we took on the first half. We have a strong, vibrant, caring community, and now is the time to come together by staying apart!

Keep healthy, safe, and take care.
